Abundance

Abundance

Living in a small town, there's often a lot of opinions about what the town *should* have or what a person feels deprived of. I have attempted to have a practice of seeing the bright side of our region instead, which is honestly very challenging to keep up with when...

OH HI!

Oh Hi Handpies started as an idea to bring more seasonality to the way we eat and highlight local food. Originally launched as a cottage industry hand pie baking business, we are turning things on their head and restarting!
The mission and goal remains the same, to highlight local food, make better choices about how we consume food and everything else so that it makes a lighter impact on the environment, and finding joy and friendship through it all.
Now, I’d like to teach you how to make your own handpies at home, about the seasonality of food in the PNW and about growing your own delicious fruits and veggies in your home garden or supporting local farmers.
I’m Britta, and I started this business in 2019 and we’re ready for a reinvention in 2023. Based in Aberdeen, Washington, I’m here to share more about what I’ve learned about local food and our region as well as the entire Pacific Northwest (and maybe beyond!).

Let’s Go Somewhere

Let’s Go Somewhere

Now that I’ve got my vaccine, I can’t help but wonder what it’s like out there... have things changed? Is anything open? Will traveling be fun again? I’ve been a pretty avid traveler for most of my life. Starting as a kid, we often travelled to see family, I started...

Garden Grown

Garden Grown

THANKS INTERNET. Who knew so many flowers were edible!? While I’ve been working on designing my garden, I’ve also been learning more about all of the plants we already have growing here. Our garden is fairly large and bordered by trees, bushes and flowers. It’s fun...

Reduce, Reduce, Reduce

Reduce, Reduce, Reduce

I think that unintentionally, through choosing to live in a small town, I’ve naturally found ways to reduce my waste and environmental impact. Maybe because of personality? I honestly don’t like shopping and I love being organized... and being organized is easier when...

Oasis

Oasis

A hot market in a small town... what a strange time to own a house! We live in Aberdeen, WA - a small coastal town that has a “hot” real estate market these days with homes selling quickly. I must admit, there’s that temptation to sell our house and make a pretty nice...

Local Dollars

Local Dollars

2020 was a “buy nothing” year, conveniently occurring in a year where we really couldn’t go out much anyway. While I’m certain we didn’t 100% follow the rules (I went on a sewing binge and definitely bought some fabric)... it was an enlightening year to stave off the...
